10 ways to boredom proof rainy days!

You wake up to the thunder, lightning and rain. If you're at all like me, you cringe at the thought of being stuck inside all day. My children love getting to play outside and I love that the house stays cleaner when we're not in it! So I've put together our top 10 boredom busters for rainy days!

1) Play-Doh!
Children love anything they can do with their hands. Play-Doh can be the store bought kind with all the fancy accessories or it can be the home made kind with cookie cutters and sticks.

2) Lego's, Duplo's, Building blocks!
One of our favorite ways to entertain ourselves is with Lego's. My children are still fairly young, 3, 2 and 1, so we use the larger version of Lego's. They love to build as high as they can, fill the mats they have, or just try to build objects using their creative toddler minds. Even older children can enjoy building with Lego's, especially if you join in on the fun!

3) Animals, animals, animals!
Children love playing with animals of all kinds and learning their sounds. If you have toy animals you can line them up and make the wrong sounds to make the children correct you. Ie, grab the cow but bark like a dog or grab the cat and quack like a duck. The kids will love getting to tell you that's not right. You can also create scenery on paper and make farms, oceans, zoo's, etc.

4) Artsy and Crafty!
Markers, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Paint, Pudding, it all works. Whatever arts or crafts supplies you have on hand can become a fun way to entertain children of any age. You can change up the normal paper and use wax paper, paper bags, tin foil, etc.

5) Books are the best!
We love to read on rainy days. You can pile up pillows on the couch, floor, beds, etc. Curl up with a warm blanket and they favorite stuffed animal. Read, read, read!

6) Indoor swimming!
Put your kids in their swimming suits and fill the bathtub with toys they normally use at the pool. Put towels down on the floor and let them go to town swimming in their own tub! Of course, supervision is always necessary when young children are in water.

7) Cleaning challenge!
Make up some fun cleaning challenges for each child. You can create races to see who can make their beds faster, mop their section of floor, or wipe off their side of the table fastest. You'll get a clean house and they will get their energy out!

8) Forts, Castles and Towers!
Make forts or castles out of chairs and blankets. Make towers out of pillows and furniture. They can bring toys into their forts or you can pretend to be a monster that's trying to knock down their tower!

9) Cook, Make and Bake!
Have them help you cook something, whether it be lunch or a meal for a friend. Baking is always a favorite for children. They'll enjoy the mess and you'll enjoy the yummy treats!!

10) Movies!
Lastly, we reserve movies for those times when it rains for days! Let your children pick which movie they'll watch and give them fun movie snacks like popcorn or pretzels. After the movie you can create spin off fun with art projects based on the movie or by reenacting scenes with dress up clothes or toys!

Bonus Tip 11)
If there's no lighting or weather advisories you can always don the rain coat and boots and head outside to splash in the puddles and catch rain drop on your tongues!

I hope this list helps give you some ideas of fun things to do on those rainy days when getting outside isn't an option.
