10 Steps to a Clean Car!

Who doesn't like a freshly detailed car? However, who has the budget for a professional detailing more than once or twice a year. If your car is anything like mine it needs cleaned out far more often that I can afford to pay a professional for. Here are the 10 steps I use to clean out my car:

1) Trash it
Throw out any garbage into a garbage bag. We keep plastic bags in our car for garbage but there always seems to be more garbage on the floor of the car, usually back by the kids, than in the bags.

2) Sort it out
In another bag/box/bin, sort out the dirty dishes, clothes, etc that need to go back into the house. Also pull out anything you regularly store in the cup holders or cubbie holes.

3) Windows
Wash the windows with a window cleaner. Washing the windows first prevents you from having to go back and clean the doors if the cleaner runs down.

4) Pretreat
Spray down all remaining hard surfaces with the cleaning solution of your choice. Pretreating makes it easier to clean any gunky, grimy, stuck on messes.

5) Wipe up
Using a dry cloth or paper towels wipe up the hard surfaces. Any remaining gunk can be re-sprayed and wiped down again until it comes clean.

6) Remove Floor Coverings
Pull out any carpets or mats on your floors to prepare for vacuuming. Shake the rugs out and set near the vehicle to vacuum next.

7) Vacuum Seats
Vacuum the trunk and seats first. Starting higher in the car means you won't have to back track to vacuum any crumbs that fall from the seats to the floor.

8) Vacuum Floor & Rugs
Next up vacuum the floors and rugs. Go slowly so you get all the nooks and crannies cleaned out too.

9) Replace
Put the rugs and carpets back into the vehicle. Put anything back into the cup holders/cubbie holes.

10) Scentsy
Spray or hang an air freshener to give it the final touch! You're done and your car is now clean!

I typically splurge and take the car through the automated car wash to get the exterior cleaned!

Do you clean your own car or hire a professional to do it?
